History of screen printing technology
Before discovering the history of screen printing technology, it is worth taking a moment to travel to Asia, where its roots can be traced. The first references to printing techniques similar to screen printing come from China, more specifically from the Song dynasty period (960-1279 AD). At that time, artists used screen printing inks to create unique designs on fabrics. The new method quickly gained popularity also in neighbouring countries such as Japan and Indonesia.
Development of screen printing technology in Europe
The road of screen printing technology to Europe was long and complicated. For many years, printers struggled to develop a printing method that would allow the reproduction of images in a precise and economically viable manner. In the 18th century, this was achieved with the invention of Frenchman Simon Seropyan. His method involved transferring images onto fabric using screen printing inks and special frames with grids.
Further evolution of screen printing and screen printing inks
The screen printing technique was successively improved. New types of screen printing inks were developed, which made it possible to give different visual effects, such as gloss or matt. In the 1960s, another breakthrough came with the screen printing technique. The American artist Andy Warhol introduced the world to his famous serigraphs, which were made using screen printing. His work influenced the further development of this printing method in areas such as art and advertising.
Screen printing in Poland - history and present day
The history of screen printing in Poland dates back to the inter-war period, when, thanks to artists associated with the so-called Krakow Group and the Warsaw Institute of Art Propaganda , representatives of the Polish avant-garde began to experiment with this printing technique already before World War II. After the war, screen printing also began to be used by other institutions and companies, especially in the production of packaging, posters or labels.
Today, the screen printing technique has become one of the most widely used printing methods. Today, it is used in industry as well as in applied and artistic graphics. Screen printing inks are available in a wide range of colours and different types, making it even more suitable for customers.
